All of our green tea comes from the rolling hillsides south of Kandy in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Set within the southwestern highlands of Sri Lanka, this area benefits from the annual monsoon. As there's no real winter, tea picking is continuous, which means less tip from new spring growth. Kandy teas are classic medium-grown, producing a delicious smooth brew with good colour and strength.
Green tea is an herb (Camellia sinensis) that originates in China, Japan and other parts of Asia. It is not fermented before it is dried. This herb is used primarily for its free-radical scavenging capabilities. The key ingredient EGCG, which stands for Epigallocatechin Gallate, protects against digestive and respiratory infections. Historical uses of the tea are reducing high blood pressure, inhibiting pathogenic bacteria that cause food poisoning and blocking the actions of carcinogens, ultraviolet light and metastasis.
