COOPAC is a former cooperative turned private company owned by its farmer members and founder Emmanuel Nzungize. They operate in the Rutsiro and Rubavu regions of Western Rwanda, near the shores of Lake Kivu, providing services to coffee growers and processing coffee for export. Established in 2001, they currently own three washing stations where coffee still in its cherry is delivered by farmers for pulping, fermentation, cleaning and drying.
One of COOPAC’s washing stations, Kabirizi, was the first in the country to acquire formal organic certification in 2011. This achievement has made it possible for high quality, fair trade and organic certified coffee to be sourced from Rwanda. Their coffee is clean and sweet with aromas of caramel, stone fruit, black tea and citrus.
