We have received some comments that our take out cups have been leaking at the seams. We have been working diligently with the manufacturer to improve the performance of our cups while remaining compostable. We began this work eight months ago and there are more improvements to make but it takes time and testing.
The nature of paper cups (whether compostable or not) is that the inside seam creates a bump along the top rim where the cup meets the lid. This bump pushes up the lid and allows liquid to flow over and down between the two walls and out through the bottom.
There are two things you can do to prevent cup leaks:
- Ensure the hole in the lid is lined up opposite to the inside seam. Note there are two seams on our double-walled cups.
- Take a few sips of your drink before putting on the lid so there is about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) space between the rim and the coffee.
These simple steps will minimize any leaks and allow you to enjoy your beautiful drink be it tea, coffee, cider or hot chocolate!
