Ottawa is rich with caring volunteers and organizations that make life in our city better. We love being part of the community fabric and supporting groups with exceptional coffee.
This year our coffeehouses supported over 700 neighbourhood events and organizations with over 800 donations. Here are just a few highlights:
Environmental Commitment - This year Bike to Work Month had 4033 participants and 868 new cycle commuters. This one-month effort averted 141,580 kg of greenhouse gas emissions - that's the equivalent of idling a car for 1425 DAYS! We are biking enthusiasts and would love to see more cyclists and more cycling infrastructure to make commuting safe and enjoyable. We were happy to provide donations to encourage this effort and other groups working to preserve and enhance the health of our environment. This includes the Ottawa Riverkeeper’s 4K swim where over 300 local and international swimmers, kayakers, canoeists, paddle boarders, sailors, and river enthusiasts competed and raised money in support of keeping the Ottawa River clean.
Public School Fundraisers– Our tax dollars cover basic education costs, but the reality is that enriching activities and fun schoolyard structures only happen with fundraising efforts. We were happy to support fundraising efforts this year at Rockcliffe Public and Elmdale Public Schools.
Celebrating Ottawa Festivals– We’re fortunate to have so many rich and diverse festivals throughout the year that celebrate the arts, diversity, and our natural surroundings. Here’s a shout out to the volunteers and creative minds that enrich us through our festivals. Writer’s Festival (spring & fall edition), Canadian Stone Carving Festival, Ottawa International Animation Festival, and VerseFest were just a few that we were able to support this year.
Supporting Our Vulnerable– As a community, we take care of each other. The need for care comes in many forms from health and socio-economic support to food and shelter. We experienced just how quickly our lives can change when six tornados ripped through our region this Fall and left many families homeless and many more without power. Our customers and staff responded quickly raising money for the Ottawa Food Bank.
We’re proud to support the important work of organizations serving the vulnerable including Ottawa Community Housing Foundation, Canoe for Kids, Ottawa ACORN free low-income tax clinics, Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign, YSB SleepOUT For Youth, Breast Cancer Action, Walk for ALS, and the Ottawa Food Bank. Thank you for everything you do.
