The Oromia Coffee Farmer’s Cooperative Union is a very large cooperative in Ethiopia with a total membership of over 200,000 household farmers from across the Oromia Regional State. The cooperative exports coffees from various regions and is particurly well known for its natural processed coffee from the Harrar region in the West of Ethiopia. Famous for unmistakbly blueberry-like coffee, the Harrar region is the area around the ancient city of Harrar (also spelled Harar/Harer). Harrar has long been an important city in Ethiopian history, originally being a major trading centre along the trade routes to ports on the Gulf of Aden. Currently it rivals Yirgacheffe as one of the most famous coffee growing regions in the world.
