Home Brewing Guide to the Clever

The Clever is one of the easiest ways to make a great tasting cup of coffee at home. It uses immersion brewing to give you a full-bodied cup of coffee with no sediment. We think it produces the most flavourful cup of coffee.

What you need:

Clever brewer | Filter | Coffee | Grinder | Scale or Measuring Spoon | Filtered Water | Kettle | Timer | Spoon | Coffee Mug (12 oz)

Step 1:

Someone pouring boiling water into a clever with a filter

Place the filter in the Clever dripper. Pour boiled water to the top and let it drain through over an empty coffee mug - this will remove the “papery” taste from the filter.

Step 2:

Coffee grinds in a clever with a filter, sitting on a scale

Grind 22g (approx. three rounded tbsps) of coffee on a medium grind. Pour the grinds into the filter and tap the sides to even out the coffee bed.

Step 3:

Someone pouring boiling water into the clever on top of a scale

Tare your scale and pour just enough water of the grinds to saturate them (about 75g).

Step 4:

Someone stirring the coffee grinds in the clever on top of the scale

Stir gently to make sure all of the grinds are saturated with water.

Step 5:

Brewer sitting on top of the scale

Pour the remaining water (a total of 350g) into the filter so it just about full and the coffee is completely saturated.

 Step 6:

Brewer with lid on it, next to a timer

Place lid on the brewer and set timer for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Step 7:

Brewing sitting on top of a mug to drain

Set the brewer on a coffee mug to drain into the cup.

 Step 8:

Coffee mug full of coffee sitting next to the brewer

The filter and grinds can go into the compost. Rinse out the Clever for next time and enjoy your cup of coffee!
